![]() Nothing wrong with that, but you are looking at complete overhaul mods for that type of flavour in Dwarf Fortress (and then it gets weirder than cave of qud). Some people are obsessed with gun based combat for example. We have DF tilesets already, they aren't capable of rimworld level animations), newbie friendliness and flavour. The advantages rimworld has are graphics (steam release of DF wont fix this. If we get 1 release a year than it's probably stable 1 year out 4 (and modding makes it worse not better). That when it's stable clause is a big gotcha though. In terms of depth and complexity, scope, even modding in theory (though without workshop support it's a painful process). So according to the dataleak Dwarf Fortress for steam is tentatively slated of release late September.ĭwarf Fortress is definitely the superior game when it's stable. I'm expecting it's going to be cheap, like $10 or so, considering the base game is free. In a year or two (or more) when it comes out check out public opinion on the release to see if it's worthwhile. My recommendation is get RimWorld now, then keep an eye on DF. I full intended to try it when it comes out, but my hopes are not high. Rather than making it look "good" and modern they are mostly working on trying to make it barely legible, which is still appreciated. The extra complexity of DF might be worthwhile for some, but the game is still going to look like ass based on what I've seen done. I don't think even with the new graphics and UI the game is going to appeal to very many people, RimWorld took that formula and made it a lot more modern and accessible and is likely going to remain the superior game for most people. Last I heard they had to fire the main sprite artist because of copyright abuse issues and were just hiring a new one and getting them up to speed. It's going to be a while before the Steam version of DF is out.
